Green Tea Extract Labels: EGCG, Caffeine, and Serving Data

Compare green tea extract products by the stated extract and EGCG amounts, caffeine disclosure, serving size, and package warnings.

Green tea beverages and concentrated green tea extracts are different product forms. A supplement label may state an extract amount, an EGCG amount, caffeine, or only a blend total; these fields should remain separate.

Copy the declared extract details

Record the botanical name if shown, amount of green tea extract per serving, standardized constituent amount or percentage, and serving count. Check whether caffeine is disclosed and whether the product is part of a weight-management blend. Do not infer EGCG or caffeine amounts from the extract weight.

Read warnings and claims in context

NCCIH notes that liver injury has been reported in some people using green tea products, primarily extract capsules or tablets. Read the package warnings and discuss a supplement with a health professional if you take medications or have a health concern. The label comparison does not establish that a concentrated extract has the same effects or risks as a beverage.

Frequently asked questions

Does “decaffeinated green tea” mean zero caffeine?

Check whether the current label states a caffeine amount or an explicit limit; do not assume from the front label.

Can I calculate EGCG from total extract milligrams?

Only if the label gives a clear percentage and its basis. Otherwise leave the EGCG amount unknown.
