Methylcobalamin vs Cyanocobalamin: Compare B12 Labels
A label-first comparison of common B12 forms, serving amounts, delivery formats, and price units—without ranking products by marketing language.By Suppscan Editorial Team · Last checked October 1, 2026A label-first comparison of common B12 forms, serving amounts, delivery formats, and price units—without ranking products by marketing language.
Vitamin B12 supplements may list cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, or another form. “Methyl” on the front of a bottle is a form description, not a complete comparison of the amount or package value.
Compare exact form and amount
Copy the form named in the ingredient list and the vitamin B12 quantity in the Supplement Facts panel. Keep micrograms (mcg) as the unit and note whether the product is a single-ingredient supplement, B-complex, or multivitamin. A single B12 product and a multi are different formulas even if both list the same amount per serving.
NIH ODS notes that research has not shown one form of supplemental B12 to be better than the others. Therefore, don’t infer superior results from “active,” “methyl,” or “premium” wording alone. Compare the disclosed form and amount, then check price per labeled serving.
Check format and total servings
Tablets, lozenges, liquids, and sprays can use different serving definitions. Compare the facts panel’s amount per serving and package servings, not just units per bottle or the word “sublingual.” A cost calculation cannot determine which product is appropriate for someone.
Frequently asked questions
Does methylcobalamin prove a product is more effective?
No. NIH ODS says research has not established one supplemental form as better than the others.
Can I compare a B-complex with B12-only by bottle price?
You can compare package prices, but also record the full formula, B12 amount per serving, and number of servings.
