A short checklist to match the NSF Certified for Sport mark to the exact product and understand what the program is designed to check.

NSF Certified for Sport is a specific certification program for sports supplements. The mark is not interchangeable with a generic “tested” statement or a facility-level GMP claim.

Match the exact product

  1. Copy the brand, product name, flavor or version, and serving form.
  2. Search NSF’s Certified for Sport directory or app for that exact product.
  3. Compare the label and any status information with the current listing.
  4. Check which batch or lot the program’s information covers if the directory provides it.

NSF says its program includes screening for substances banned by major sports organizations. That program scope does not make a product FDA-approved or show that it is effective or appropriate for a person. An absent listing means the claim has not been verified through that directory; it does not, by itself, prove the product is unsafe.

Frequently asked questions

Is NSF Certified for Sport the same as NSF GMP?

No. Product certification and facility-focused GMP programs have different scopes.

Does certification guarantee that a product is right for every athlete?

No. It addresses defined product checks, not individual needs, performance outcomes, or all possible risks.
