Herbal Supplement Ingredients: What to Check on the Label

A line-by-line checklist for reading botanical and adaptogen supplement labels without inventing missing data.

Copy the ingredient line exactly

Start with the botanical name and keep the label’s wording for the plant part and preparation. A product called an extract may disclose a ratio, a standardization, or neither; those are different levels of information.

Watch for proprietary blends

A blend name can identify a group of ingredients without disclosing each amount. Keep the ingredient identities visible, but leave individual normalized values unknown when the label does not provide them.

Do not translate claims into measurements

Words such as clean, powerful, or stress support describe positioning, not a comparable quantity. Use the facts panel, serving definition, package count, and price as the evidence fields.

Keep non-supplement products out

Food, coffee, tea, sauces, cosmetics, and medicines require a different comparison context. A merchant category alone should not override the product name and label.
