Electrolyte Labels: Sodium and Potassium vs Total Blend Weight

Compare electrolyte powders by the sodium and potassium actually declared per serving, not by total powder or blend weight.By Suppscan Editorial Team · Last checked October 10, 2026

Compare electrolyte powders by the sodium and potassium actually declared per serving, not by total powder or blend weight.

A hydration product’s total powder weight is not the amount of sodium, potassium, or other electrolytes in a serving. Read the nutrient lines and named blend ingredients separately.

Build a per-serving comparison

Record sodium and potassium in milligrams, any other electrolyte amounts, the powder or liquid serving size, and how much water the label says to mix. If the package lists an “electrolyte blend” without individual quantities, do not assign the blend total to sodium or potassium.

Compare package value without prescribing intake

Multiply the disclosed amount per serving by servings per container to calculate package totals for label comparison. Cost per serving can be useful, but it does not establish what someone needs during activity. Keep carbohydrate, sugar, and flavor ingredients visible, and follow the current label directions rather than substituting a generic serving.

Frequently asked questions

Does “1,000 mg electrolyte blend” mean 1,000 mg sodium?

No. Use the separate sodium line if it is declared; otherwise mark the amount unknown.

Can I compare powders mixed into different water volumes?

Compare the labeled serving and mixing directions, and show the dilution basis alongside any per-serving amount.
