“Fish oil” and “krill oil” identify different sources, but package front labels may emphasize total oil rather than the omega-3 amounts shoppers want to compare. Keep those quantities in separate fields.
Find EPA and DHA on the label
Record the oil amount per serving and the separately declared EPA and DHA amounts, when provided. Add EPA plus DHA only when both values use the same unit and refer to the same serving. Do not substitute the total milligrams of oil for EPA+DHA.
Compare source and package value
Note whether the source is fish or krill and capture the number of softgels per serving and per container. If calculating price per 1,000 mg EPA+DHA, multiply the combined per-serving amount by labeled servings to get a package total, then divide price by that total. Leave the calculation blank when the label does not disclose enough data. It is not an effectiveness comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1,000 mg of fish oil the same as 1,000 mg EPA+DHA?
No. Total oil and the EPA+DHA portion are separate values; use the amounts the label states.
Can a price calculation rank krill and fish oil?
It can compare disclosed unit prices, but it does not establish equivalence, quality, or individual suitability.
