A label-first method for comparing the separately declared EPA and DHA amounts in omega-3 products.

Supplement labels and measuring tools used for a omega-3 comparison
Compare the declared amount, serving information, and one common price unit.

Read past the front-of-bottle fish-oil number

  1. Find EPA and DHA listed separately in milligrams.
  2. Add the two declared amounts for the serving-level comparison.
  3. Record serving size and total servings per container.
  4. Compare price per 1,000 mg of declared EPA plus DHA.

Total fish-oil weight and EPA-plus-DHA amount are different figures. Use the latter when the goal is a comparable label calculation.

Start with information you can verify

Read the product label before comparing a headline claim. This guide focuses on EPA milligrams, DHA milligrams, serving size, servings per container, and price per 1,000 mg of EPA plus DHA. Use the stated numbers and leave any undisclosed value unknown.

Compare the same unit

For a worked example only, a $30 package with 60 servings containing 500 mg EPA and 300 mg DHA per serving provides 48 g of declared EPA plus DHA. Its cost is $0.63 per 1,000 mg EPA plus DHA. This is label arithmetic, not nutrition advice.

Keep price and formulation separate

A package price is a useful starting point, but it does not describe the full formula. Compare the ingredient information and package size first, then use one common calculation to make the cost easier to understand.

Frequently asked questions

What should I compare first?

Start with the declared active amount and serving information. A front-label phrase cannot replace the values in the product facts panel.

Does this page rank products?

No. It explains a comparison method and links to current catalog data rather than claiming a permanent winner.
